Woopra: Interactive Website Stats From Your Desktop

Over the last week I’ve been testing Woopra, the latest newcomer into the website tracking world and although having only launched recently it is quite surprising at just how much they have to offer. Woopra is a brilliant way of tracking your visitors in quite some detail and its all free.

This powerful tool lets you browse all your website logistics from the comfort of your desktop and has some great features like live tracking (that doesnt slow down your site) and a small pop-up (like that seen when you get a new email on msn) whenever a new visitor lands on your site.

What is Woopra?

Well to break it down Woopra is a website tracker similar to other programs like ‘Analytics’ and ‘Blog Stats’ that allows you to see a huge array of stats on your website visitors. The only difference with Woopra is that you install a small application on your computer and this application allows you to browse all your website statistics from the comfort of your own home getting around the need to visit a site manually to check.

The application is easy to install on both your computer and onto wordpress.

For Wordpress, Woopra provide a simple wordpress plugin that requires little more than your website ID which you receive on acticvation of your account which takes about 24-48hrs to receive.

As for the desktop application you just need to download the file install the program and login using your user name and password. Woopra desktop will then downloada all your new stats each time you log in and you can start broswing through all your traffic immediately.

Best Features

Personally my favourite feature is the ‘live’ feature. This allows real-time updates of all those browsing your website, and of those browsing it also tells you want page they are currently reading, all the pages they have visited in this session and where they were referred from. Then once they leave your site that user is removed from the live window and their data is then archived.

The ‘live’ features breakdown:

  • World Tracking - Allowing you to see where in the world they are from
  • What page they are currently on
  • A list of pages they have visited on your blog
  • The referring page
  • Browser and Operating Sytem
  • Total visits
  • Total pageviews
  • Average pageviews per visit

Auto-tagging is another of my favourite features that woopra runs. This for example defines a tag to a specific IP. So for example I can track individual visitors to my website as woopra automatically labels them if they have left a comment on my website. Woopra uses that information and tags the name used on the comment to thier IP automatically.

Notifications are shown when ever a new user lands on your site and what page of the website they have just landed on. These are clickable and take you to the details of that specific visitor.

More features for Woopra can be read on this page

How Do I Get Accepted?

All you need to do is head to Woopra.com and register using an email account. You’ll receive a confirmation email about 24hours later and your ready to use this powerful tracking tool!

Final Word

I personally love this program and I can see myself sticking with it for some time. Woopra have come such a long way in such short time and I beleive there will be much more to come from these guys. It might even be worth subscribing to their feed to keep yourself up to date with future updates as each update seems to improve this app quite dramatically if you weren’t to upgrade you may be missing out big time.

My only quirm with Woopra is that I can only view the last 1000 visitors to my blog. While my site is only small and hitting 1000 visitors takes over a week it would be nice to see woopra as a more long-term way of viewing your website traffic like google’s analytics.

Other than that its one amazing application and I’d recommend it to everyone. Here is the link to Woopra again for all that missed it

I will try it now…
Thanks for the information..

Im in love with woopra, i just cant get enough. Sometimes i just get a beer sit back and watch the peeps all over the world clicking on the site :)

Jamie

haha neil. Im hugely addicted to woopra too.. Though my traffic through put is one every few minutes I always click the notification and look at where they are from and what they are doing. Its so fun.

Have you tried the “start a conversation” button yet?.. Im eager (yet scared) to try it a press.

Yeah i have tried it out, to be honest, a lot of people dont like it. They feel like they are being watched and hacked all at the same time. Some people think you are taking up their bandwidth, silly billy’s. I cant wait for it to move out of beta. I got featured on digg just 2 days ago and sadly woopra only registered the first 10,000 people. All round its a great piece of software. Great article Jamie ;)

This was out a long time ago like. But “start a conversation” is pretty cool, but it scars people off. They think its a hacker or they dont have a clue what it is. Or some stupid people actually think its an advert. Id say dont click it ;)

Jamie

@ Niel

Agreed Neil! Woopra is brilliant.

Glad you enjoyed the article..

@ Anto & Niel

Ye I imagine it is like those ip adverts that poppped-up for a phase a few years ago. I can see why people get scared. I’d think I’d be hacked too!

Woopra is an excellent tool but i cant use it my site is still in pending approval

i wish some one will send me invitation to join Woopra the says invited user get auto approval.

@Jamie and Niel can i expect invitation from you guys?

I signed up a few days ago, I’m excited just waiting for them to expand enough to allow me into the beta :D

Jamie

@ Sunil

Hi sunil.. I searched the site for about 15mins to no avail. I’m afraid I found no way of inviting others into the scheme otherwise you’d have been the first to receive an invitation from me. Sorry.. I can only hope they expand to beta soon..

@ mc2w

Hi, welcome to B2L and thanks for commenting. As for Woopra I imagine they will expand into woopra soon.. I’m sure they will let you in for the beta program, I’m sure they are looking for all the help they can get.

@Jamie Glad to know i am 1rst in your Invitation list

about invitation option i think it should be some where in members area

I will try it now…
Thanks for the information..
